Rosa-Reconciliation:
a hand- crafted Rosary making workshop - a ritual of Reconciliation with Christianity
This workshop is a ritual for reconciliation, as well as a collective crafting ritual wherein you will bring something to life from your own hands, to carry forward and support the ongoing process of healing and reconciliation. This offering has come out of my own process of healing toxic patriarchal imprints carried in my body - a legacy of Christian Imperialism, both suffered by and passed down the line through my Maternal Grandmothers. My inspiration, process, and courage to approach this work has been deeply nourished by the novella Our Lady of the Dark Country, and the book The Way of the Rose: the Radical Path of the Divine Feminine Hidden in the Rosary. So, we will call upon the support of two beings / archetypes in the work of healing and reconciliation: Mother Mary - our Lady of Grace, one of infinite Compassion, our Lady of Sorrows; and the Rose - the plant of the Heart and unconditional Love.
Roses: Medicine for Healing & Compassion
We turn to the plants, and specifically Roses for support in this particular healing and reconciliation journey. They embody and teach us about fierce love, compassion, beauty, and strength.
The general flow of this workshop with look something like:
Gather together, ground, introduce ourselves, and open a ritual space
Connect and share in small groups around how we relate to the workshop themes - our origin stories, her-stories / histories, family & ancestral material, lived experiences…
Meet the anchor archetype / plant ally - Mother Mary and the Rose - and explore their mystery and myth- how they can support us in healing and reconciliation.
Learn a movement / embodied practice
Make beads from rose clay (petals that have been cooked down and transformed into moldable clay). With these rose beads, you can craft a rosary, bracelet, talisman, or any kind of adornment that inspires you. (All materials included in the workshop price)
Come together for final thoughts / shares and closing.
