Rosa-Reconciliation:
a hand- crafted Rosary making workshop - a Reconciliation ritual for the legacy of Christianity
This ritual for reconciliation employs a multi-faceted sensory, somatic, and spirit approach - through collectively crafting a rosary from rose petals, we will bring something to life from our own hands, supporting us in carrying forward the ongoing process of healing and reconciliation. This offering has sprouted from the process of healing wounds incurred by the institutions of christianity - toxic patriarchal imprints carried in body and spirit, the legacy of Christian Imperialism, both suffered by and passed down through my line of Maternal Grandmothers. The inspiration and courage to approach this work has been influenced by the novella Our Lady of the Dark Country (Sylvia Linsteadt), and the books The Way of the Rose: the Radical Path of the Divine Feminine Hidden in the Rosary (Perdita Finn & Clark Strand), and The Moon Under Her Feet (Clysta Kinstler). The process has been supported by a number of allies - plants, elementals, ancestors.
This ritual and process of healing, reconciliation, and forgiveness will be anchored by the support of two animate archetypes: Mother Mary - our Lady of Grace, one of infinite Compassion; and the Rose - the plant of the Heart and unconditional Love.
Roses: Medicine for Healing & Compassion
We turn to the plants, and specifically the Rose for support in this particular journey. They embody and teach us about fierce love, compassion, beauty, and strength.
Workshop Flow:
Gather, ground, introduce ourselves, and open a ritual space
Connect and share in small groups - how do we relate to these themes? Share some of our origin stories, her-stories / histories, family & ancestral stories, lived experiences…
Meet the anchor archetypes: Mother Mary and the Rose - explore them as beings, their signatures, mystery and myth, how they can support us in healing and reconciliation.
Explore a movement / embodied practice
Make beads from rose clay (rose petals that have been cooked down and transformed into moldable clay). With these rose beads, you can craft a rosary, bracelet, talisman, or any kind of adornment that inspires you. (All materials included in the workshop price)
Identify further support: Fire and Sacred Rage as allies
Come together for final thoughts / shares and closing.
